This Zombie Orc Barbarian from Epic Miniatures captures the grim inevitability of undead muscle — a former raider reduced to a shambling engine of destruction, still clutching the hand axe it swung in life. The sculpt leans into the horror of the concept without losing the character: layered robes and armour hang heavy over a broad, powerful frame, a skull motif decorates the belt buckle, and a length of heavy chain loops across the back, hinting at a story the creature itself has long forgotten.
The face tells the full tale — sunken, exposed bone showing through decayed flesh beneath a pulled-back hood, tusks still visible, jaw slightly slack. This is not a skeleton repurposed; this was a warrior, and that history reads in every line of the sculpt. The wide, low stance — axe drawn back and weight shifting forward — gives the impression of a creature mid-lurch, momentum carrying it forward with the mindless purpose only the undead possess.
Constructed as a multipart kit, the Zombie Orc Barbarian offers a satisfying assembly and excellent surface detail that rewards careful painting. Pick out the bone and necrotic flesh, drybrush the worn armour, and this piece will anchor an undead warband or stand as a compelling solo display model.
A solid choice for adventurers who:
- Need a fearsome undead brute to anchor a necromancer's warband or serve as a wandering undead encounter
- Are running a campaign with orc clans touched by necromantic corruption or dark bargains with death cults
- Want a centrepiece mini for an undead-themed army or display shelf vignette
- Play Barbarian characters and want a twisted mirror-image villain to face across the table
Encounter Hook
The party follows the trail of a missing trade caravan into the Thornwood — and finds it, or what remains of it. Among the wreckage, a single figure paces a slow circuit: the caravan's hired orc guard, now dead and walking, still gripping its axe. Somewhere nearby, something raised it — and it's still watching.
