Young Red Dragon 01 by Novaminis

Not yet ancient, not yet patient — a young red dragon in full threat display is arguably the most dangerous thing a mid-level party will ever see.

• ✔ 32mm scale resin miniature, printed fresh to order in the UK
• ✔ Supplied unpainted and ready to prime
• ✔ Compatible with D&D, Pathfinder, and all tabletop RPGs
• ✔ Equally at home on the gaming table or the display shelf

Young red dragons occupy a peculiar and lethal sweet spot: old enough to have developed genuine cunning and a breath weapon that turns adventurers to ash, young enough to still be driven by raw impulse and territorial fury. This sculpt from Novaminis captures exactly that energy. The dragon rears up on its hind legs, wings fully spread and membrane taut, jaws cranked open mid-roar. Every scale cluster, every ridge along the spine, and every talon has been sculpted with the kind of anatomical specificity that rewards careful painting — dry-brushed highlight by highlight, the texture practically glows.

The pose is a threat display, plain and simple. Both forelimbs are raised and angled forward, claws splayed wide, as if the creature has just landed and is demanding the party's immediate surrender. The neck is extended, the jaw is open, and the musculature along the chest and shoulder suggests explosive, barely-contained power. Whether you're running it as a CR 10 ambush on a mountain pass or as the climactic boss of a volcanic dungeon, this miniature carries the menace that encounter deserves.

This is Variation 01 in Novaminis' Young Red Dragon series — the rearing, full-display pose. It is a multipart sculpt and comes with a choice of plain base or no base, letting you integrate it into your own scenic groundwork if you prefer.

Equally compelling as a display piece on a shelf as it is looming over a hex map, the detail in the wing membranes and facial spines will give any painter a genuinely rewarding project.

Particularly well suited to adventurers who:

• Need a mid-tier dragon boss for a volcanic lair or mountain stronghold encounter
• Want a large-format painting project with rich surface texture to work into
• Are building a chromatic dragon display collection and need the red represented
• Run published campaigns featuring young red dragons and want a faithful, characterful sculpt

Encounter Hook

The party has tracked the missing caravans to a collapsed mine entrance in the Ashpeak Range. Inside, scorched timbers and melted iron tell a familiar story. As they reach the central chamber, the rhythmic breathing stops — and a shape unfurls from the darkness above the old ore cart, wings spreading wide enough to brush both walls. It has been watching since they entered. It has been deciding. Roll initiative.
