Description

In the fetid corners of forgotten bathhouses and rot-choked cellars, the Akaname creeps — a gaunt, wide-eyed horror that laps up filth with a grotesquely long tongue, its pointed ears and hollow gaze marking it as something deeply, wrongly other.

  • ✔ 32mm scale resin miniature, printed fresh to order in the UK
  • ✔ Supplied unpainted and ready to prime
  • ✔ Compatible with D&D, Pathfinder, and all tabletop RPGs
  • ✔ Equally at home on the gaming table or the display shelf

The Akaname is a creature drawn from Japanese yokai folklore — a filth-licker that haunts unclean places, crawling on all fours with its lank hair hanging loose and its impossibly elongated tongue trailing the ground. This sculpt by Mia Kay M3DM captures that creeping, predatory wrongness with exceptional detail: the hunched quadrupedal stance, the hollow teeth bared in a grimace, and the barrel of slop it paws at, its tongue slick against the rim. It is the kind of miniature that makes players lean forward in their seats and ask what, exactly, it is — and whether it is alone.

In D&D or any TTRPG setting, the Akaname works brilliantly as a Monstrosity or Fey encounter — a creature tied to uncleanliness, neglect, and the liminal rot of spaces forgotten by the living. Drop it into a city's sewers, an abandoned bathhouse, a hag's lair, or the derelict kitchen of a cursed noble's manor. It is an encounter piece with genuine atmospheric weight, and a rewarding painting project for anyone who enjoys creature miniatures with strong characterful detail.

Perfect for adventurers who:

  • Want a folklore-rooted yokai creature for horror-adjacent D&D encounters
  • Are building urban underbelly, hag coven, or cursed location scenarios
  • Enjoy painting creature miniatures with expressive, grotesque character
  • Collect display-worthy pieces drawn from world mythology

Encounter Hook:
The party was hired to investigate why the tannery district's residents keep disappearing at night — and while searching a shuttered bathhouse on the edge of the ward, one of them hears the slow, wet drag of something lapping at the flagstones in the dark below.
