Description
When the schism tore through the houses of the Underdark, it was Xanathos the Dreadful who marched at the front — Irinax's iron fist given form, clad in armour that looked like it had been carved from the bones of defeated rivals.

Xanathos the Dreadful is the kind of miniature that commands attention the moment it hits the table. This drow general of Irinax stands in a composed, battle-ready stance — the stillness of someone who has never needed to rush, because nothing has yet survived long enough to make speed necessary. His heavy armour is covered in jagged, spike-edged plating, each panel sharp as a threat, with layered pauldrons that splay outward like dark wings. A great sweeping cloak billows behind him, sculpted with extraordinary textile detail that rewards both close brushwork and drybrushing alike.
In his right hand he holds a towering two-handed sword, its blade broad and ornate, resting at his side with quiet menace. A twisted sceptre or ritual staff is clenched in his left, the clawed head at its crown suggesting arcane authority to match his martial one. His crowned helm rises into angular horns, framing a gaunt, cold-eyed drow face that reads as someone utterly certain of the outcome. The decorative base adds a crumbled, worn-stone texture that grounds the miniature and gives painters a textured canvas for their basing work.
Whether you paint him in dark plate with glowing arcane runes, dress him in house colours for a rival drow faction, or simply use him as the fearsome general your party will dread meeting at the end of a long dungeon corridor — Xanathos delivers presence in every direction.
Well-suited for adventurers who:
- Need a commanding BBEG general or lieutenant for an Underdark campaign arc
- Want a high-detail character mini that rewards experienced painters
- Are running Schism of the Drow or any drow-centric story
- Are building out a drow warband with a centrepiece leader
- Want a display-quality miniature that looks equally at home on a shelf
Encounter Hook
The party descends into the great hall of House Irinax expecting negotiation — instead they find Xanathos the Dreadful standing alone at the far end, sword planted into the obsidian floor. He does not raise his voice. He simply says: "The Matron is unavailable. You will deal with me." The initiative rolls begin.
