Will-O-Wisps are among the most quietly unsettling creatures in the monster compendium. Neither fully undead nor purely fey, they haunt the thin places between worlds — marshes, blighted heaths, cursed ruins — luring the lost with a cold, bobbing glow. These two sculpts from The Toadstool Weaver capture that ethereal, formless quality beautifully: each wisp rises from a swirling, cloth-like base of rippling vapour, with a smooth orb hovering above like a soul unmoored from its body. The second sculpt adds a textured, granular surface to its larger orb and a smaller satellite sphere nestled at its base — a subtly more menacing presence, as though something is gathering itself.
Both sculpts are rendered in a single flowing silhouette that photographs and paints brilliantly, whether you're going for ghostly blue-white, sickly green, or something altogether stranger. As a pair they make a cohesive encounter set, and as display pieces they sit together with quiet, eerie elegance.
Perfect for adventurers who:
- Need atmospheric Fey or Undead encounter pieces for swamp, moor, or cursed woodland tables
- Want a genuinely distinctive pair of spirit creatures beyond the usual zombie or skeleton fare
- Are building a Feywild, Shadowfell, or haunted wilderness encounter
- Enjoy painting glowing, ethereal effects on smooth sculpted surfaces
- Collect display miniatures with strong visual character
Encounter Hook:
Three nights running, travellers on the Ashfen Road have wandered off the path and not returned. The innkeeper in Millhaven swears she saw lights in the bog — low, drifting, and perfectly spaced, like lanterns carried by someone who never quite comes into view. The party is hired to investigate. What they find in the marsh is not footprints, not bodies, and not anything that answers to shouting — only two cold lights that seem to know exactly which member of the group is furthest from the fire.
Details
This listing includes both Will-O-Wisp sculpts. Scaled to 32mm. Available with or without a plain black base — the base ships unattached and can be fixed in place with a small amount of glue. Support marks are removed before dispatch; as with all resin work, minor surface imperfections can occasionally occur and are easily tidied up before priming. Both sculpts arrive fully cured and ready for painting or display as-is.
