Water Genasi Monk Maris by DnD Is A Woman

She moves like a river mid-flood — composed on the surface, devastating beneath it — and the moment she raises her knee and draws back her hands, her opponents learn the difference between water and the force it carries.

Maris is a Water Genasi Monk sculpted by DnD Is A Woman — and she captures everything a monk on the edge of a strike should feel: barely-contained energy, fluid poise, and the unmistakable sense that the next second is going to hurt someone. She stands balanced on one foot, knee raised in a high chamber kick, while both arms extend with trailing ribbons of elemental water coiling from her hands. Her long hair streams behind her as though caught in a current she alone can feel.

Her outfit is an eastern-style wrap jacket and wide-legged trousers — practical, unadorned, and entirely befitting a wandering martial artist who has never needed armour. The sculptural quality in the flowing water effects and the dynamic hair gives painters plenty of opportunity for wet-blending, OSL work on the elemental energy, or a more grounded, earthy colour palette if you're running Maris as a wandering hermit rather than an elemental storm in progress.

She works equally well as a player character — a Way of the Four Elements or Way of the Open Hand monk are both immediately plausible — or as an NPC guardian, dojo master, or rival encountered at a river shrine. The multipart construction means she arrives cleanly and is ready to base to your preference: she is available with a plain round base or without a base, depending on how you prefer to work.

Suits adventurers who:

• Are playing a Monk, particularly Way of the Four Elements or Way of the Open Hand
• Want a Water Genasi character with a strong, dynamic presence at the table
• Are running eastern-influenced campaigns with martial arts flavour
• Appreciate a miniature that reads clearly mid-combat from across the table
• Enjoy painting elemental energy effects and flowing fabric

Encounter Hook

The party's crossing of the Tidewatch Bridge is interrupted by a lone figure standing in their path — barefoot, knee raised, water trailing from her fingers in slow spirals. She doesn't speak. The river below her begins to rise. The monk who hired herself to protect this crossing three months ago has not taken a single day off, and she's not inclined to start now.
