This is the second sculpt in Novaminis' Watchman Halberdier series, and where variant 01 stands at attention, this one means business. The figure is braced in a confident, wide-stance pose — halberd shouldered across the body at an angle, blade and back-spike both clearly visible. He's a veteran: broad through the chest, a full beard beneath a battered kettle helm, wearing a studded leather coat with pauldrons and a long travel skirt over heavy boots. The halberd itself is the star of the weapon detail, with a broad crescent axe blade, a rear spike, and a decorative cross-guard — all crisply sculpted with visible rivets and texture on the wooden haft.
As Variant 02, this sculpt carries a distinctly more aggressive energy than its companion piece — head up, weight forward, the posture of someone who has already decided the next five seconds are going to be unpleasant for someone. Whether you're statting him as a Watch Captain, a Lawful Neutral NPC the party keeps running into, or the corrupt sergeant who's been taking coin from the thieves' guild, the detail in this sculpt does the storytelling for you.
The four-angle render set confirms excellent detail all the way round — the back shows a long coat with stitched panels and a hanging satchel, and the side view reveals just how substantial and well-balanced the halberd sculpt really is.
Particularly well-suited to adventurers who:
- Need a gruff, authoritative city guard NPC for an urban campaign
- Are building out a Watch unit with varied poses across the Halberdier series
- Want a weighty, characterful figure for a mercenary, soldier, or fighter PC
- Paint historical or late-medieval fantasy miniatures and want rich surface detail
Encounter Hook: The party's contact in the Merchant Quarter is late. As they loiter near the fountain, a watchman rounds the corner — kettle helm low, halberd levelled, three gold pieces gleaming in his free hand. He looks at them, looks at the coins, and says nothing. The party has thirty seconds to decide whether he's been paid to arrest them or to warn them.
