The Wasp Hive Golem is a large-scale, deeply unsettling creature miniature that occupies the uneasy space between construct and aberration. Its broad, muscular body is clad in overlapping chitin plates, giving it the look of something grown rather than built — layers of insectoid carapace fused over a hulking frame, with honeycomb-like lattice visible across its chest and limbs. Two enormous, tattered wings extend wide from its shoulders, ragged and bony at the tips, each one stretched between long articulated spurs like the remnants of something that once flew and now simply looms.
The front view reveals the creature's compound detail in full — a domed, eyeless head sits atop a thick neck, while serrated claws extend from one arm and what appears to be a curling scorpion-like tail or bladed appendage curls at its flank. The rear view shows the full span of the wings in their ragged glory, along with the deeply textured musculature of its back and the continuation of the chitin plating down to its clawed feet. This is a creature that reads as a threat from every angle, and on a 51mm base, it commands real table presence as a large-sized encounter piece.
Whether you use it as a constructed guardian set loose by a deranged artificer, a corrupted elemental given insectoid form, or a unique BBEG lurking at the heart of a ruined apiary dungeon, this miniature brings something genuinely distinctive to your encounter table. Equally compelling as a display piece for painters drawn to complex organic textures and layered chitinous surfaces.
A great choice for adventurers who:
- Need a large-sized insectoid creature for dungeon crawls or wilderness encounters
- Are running campaigns featuring constructs, aberrations, or corrupted nature
- Want a visually distinctive BBEG or elite monster with serious table presence
- Love painting complex organic textures — chitin, membranes, and layered carapace
- Are building out a hive-themed encounter or dungeon scenario
Encounter Hook: The party is hired to investigate a collapsed noble family's apiary estate — bees have not been seen in the region for months, and locals report a low, rhythmic humming rising from beneath the grounds. In the estate's deepest cellar, they find the Wasp Hive Golem dormant in a cradle of crumbling honeycomb, tended by a single deranged hedge-wizard who believes he has created something divine. The hum changes pitch the moment the party enters the room.
