Few things unsettle a seasoned adventuring party quite like furniture that moves on its own. The Animated Wardrobe is that perfect blend of mundane and menacing — a piece of dungeon dressing that doubles as a genuine threat. Whether it lurks in a forgotten noble's bedchamber in Barovia or guards a wizard's private study, it reads as scenery right up until it doesn't.
Sculpted by Novaminis with their characteristic eye for domestic horror, this wardrobe carries just enough personality to feel genuinely uncanny. The worn wood, the slightly-ajar doors, the suggestion of something stirring within — it's the kind of detail that makes players hesitate before opening anything in the room. That hesitation is pure gold at the table.
This is Variation 03 of Novaminis' animated wardrobe range, so adventurers building out a full encounter or a Ravenloft set piece may want to explore the other variants for visual variety across the collection.
Great for adventurers who:
- Run gothic horror campaigns set in Ravenloft or similarly unsettling locations
- Want scatter terrain that can double as an animated encounter piece
- Love the idea of dungeon dressing that keeps players on their toes
- Are building a haunted manor, cursed castle, or mimic-infested dungeon set
- Appreciate sculpts that work equally well as terrain and as miniature monsters
Encounter Hook
The party enters the old Count's dressing room. Three wardrobes line the far wall. Two are ordinary — or at least, they appear to be. As the rogue reaches for the middle one's brass handle, all three doors swing open simultaneously. Perception checks all round. Initiative is rolled. And suddenly nobody wants to open a wardrobe ever again.
