Description

Something stirs in the dark — not footsteps, not breath, but the slow, patient reach of a thing that has never needed to hunt, only to wait.

  • ✔ 32mm scale resin miniature, printed fresh to order in the UK
  • ✔ Supplied unpainted and ready to prime
  • ✔ Compatible with D&D, Pathfinder, and all tabletop RPGs
  • ✔ Equally at home on the gaming table or the display shelf

The Violet Fungus is one of D&D's most deceptively dangerous dungeon hazards — a creature that looks, at a glance, like part of the scenery. The Toadstool Weaver's sculpt captures that uneasy duality beautifully: a latticed, hollow-capped mushroom body pocked with deep pores and flushed in rich mauve-pink, erupting from a pale, striated stalk. Rising from its crown are several long, curved white tendrils — elegant in isolation, deeply alarming in context. There is something almost floral about it, and that is precisely the point. This is a creature that lures you in by being interesting before it is threatening.

For dungeon masters building Underdark corridors, cave systems, or abandoned underground ruins, this sculpt earns its place not merely as a random encounter but as a set piece. Painted in deep purples, sickly pinks, or even bioluminescent greens, it becomes the kind of terrain feature players will photograph and argue about later. Equally, for display collectors drawn to the stranger corners of fantasy flora, it makes a distinctive and characterful painting project — one where every hollow in that latticed cap offers an opportunity to experiment with wet blending and OSL effects.

Particularly well-suited for adventurers who:

  • Run Underdark campaigns featuring myconid territories, dungeon delves, or fungal horrors
  • Want a creature that doubles as atmospheric scatter on the gaming table
  • Enjoy painting organic, textured models with complex surface detail
  • Are building out a full underground encounter collection with monsters that reward close inspection
  • Appreciate miniatures that sit in that unsettling space between plant and predator

Encounter Hook

The party has been tracking the missing expedition team through the flooded lower passages of an abandoned dwarven mine. When they finally reach the last known campsite, they find tents still standing, packs still laid out — and a cluster of pale-stalked violet fungi growing through the centre of the camp, their latticed caps swaying in an airless cavern. No wind. Nothing to move them. And yet they are moving.
