Not every soul that populates the world of your campaign is a hero. Some are bakers, farmers, and tavern-keepers — and some of those ordinary folk meet an ordinary, terrible end. Villager 04 Fallen from Novaminis captures one such moment: a common man brought low, his story cut short before the players ever learned his name. It is a sculpt that speaks volumes without a single line of dialogue.

This miniature carries enormous narrative weight at the table. A fallen villager is more than a prop — it is a reason. It is the body in the alley that sends a city watch patrol into a panic, the corpse on the roadside that tells the party the bandits are closer than they thought, or the first grim evidence that something is very wrong in a village that seemed peaceful just yesterday. In a Ravenloft or gothic horror campaign especially, this miniature can set a scene with quiet, devastating efficiency.

Equally, for display painters, a fallen figure offers a rare and rewarding challenge: painting the stillness of death, the rumpled fabric of everyday clothes, the pallor of skin drained of life. Placed in a diorama or scatter scene, this miniature adds a layer of storytelling that no standing figure can quite replicate.

• Dungeon Masters staging ambush sites, murder mysteries, or plague-struck villages
• Painters building graveyard or gothic horror dioramas
• Adventurers who want their encounters to feel grounded and genuinely consequential
• GMs running Ravenloft, urban intrigue, or dark wilderness campaigns

Encounter Hook

The party arrives in the hamlet of Verenholm to find the market square deserted — until they spot him: a man face-down in the mud beside an overturned cart, his coat still warm. The innkeeper says he was alive at dawn. No wounds. No tracks. And now, somewhere in the treeline, something is watching to see what the strangers do next.
