It wears the face of someone who was once alive — and the wings are the least unsettling thing about it.

  • ✔ Supplied unpainted and ready to prime
  • ✔ Compatible with D&D, Pathfinder, and all tabletop RPGs
  • ✔ Equally at home on the gaming table or the display shelf

The Vargouille is one of the more deeply unsettling entries in the fiend bestiary. Part humanoid head, part bat-winged horror, it drifts through the lower planes trailing tentacled tendrils — and its shriek can paralyse those unlucky enough to hear it. What makes the Vargouille especially dreadful for a Dungeon Master is its curse: a creature killed by one doesn't simply die. Over days, their head begins to change. This is the kind of creature that lingers in the imagination long after the encounter ends.

This sculpt from The Toadstool Weaver captures every grotesque detail — the leathery bat wings spread wide, the snarling expression locked somewhere between fury and anguish, the dangling tendrils beneath that anchor it in mid-flight. The facial sculpt in particular carries real character: sunken eyes, bared teeth, a brow furrowed with malice. Whether you're fielding it as a swarm of lower-planar horrors or using a single piece as a cursed artefact on a collector's shelf, this miniature earns its place.

Perfect for adventurers who:

  • Run lower-planar campaigns or Avernus-adjacent encounters
  • Want a genuinely unsettling monster to unnerve their players
  • Collect fiend and demon-type miniatures for display
  • Are building encounters around transformation or cursed afflictions
  • Paint character pieces with strong facial detail

Encounter Hook:
Three days after the party cleared the abandoned shrine, the cleric stops speaking. By morning, her ears have sharpened to points. The others find the journal of the last priest — his final entries describe a winged thing that watched him sleep from the rafters, never attacking, only waiting. Something is still in the shrine. Something patient.
