Vardo Caravan by Great Grimoire

The wagon rolls into the village square just before dusk — curtained windows glowing, barrels lashed to the roof, and the faint scent of incense curling from beneath the painted door.

This Vardo Caravan is one of the most characterful pieces of terrain you can place on a fantasy battle map. Every panel of the sculpt rewards a closer look: carved rose motifs and flowing acanthus scrollwork frame the shuttered windows; a curved barrel-vault roof sits above tongue-and-groove timber planking; a hanging lantern dangles from the rear corner post; and two rope-lashed barrels are secured to the roof rack above. The folding entry steps drop down from the ornate rear door, framed by decorative moulding and a draped canopy — the kind of wagon that belongs to someone with secrets worth keeping.
Whether it belongs to a wandering Vistani seer, a travelling merchant of dubious wares, or a circus troupe harbouring something far stranger in the back, this caravan brings an entire story with it the moment it hits the table. It works equally well as scatter terrain on a roadside encounter map or as a centrepiece display piece for collectors who appreciate fine architectural detail in miniature form.
Perfect for adventurers who:
- Run road encounters, festival scenes, or travelling merchant storylines
- Want immersive terrain that doubles as a genuine conversation piece
- Are building Ravenloft or Gothic fantasy campaign settings
- Paint detailed terrain pieces and diorama displays
- Need a memorable location that players will actually remember
Encounter Hook:
The party has been trailing a string of disappearances along the King's Road for three sessions. Tonight, camped at the crossroads, they spot lantern-light through the treeline — a vardo, curtains drawn, parked well off the road. No horse is tethered outside. No fire burns nearby. The steps are already folded down.
Details
Sculpted by Great Grimoire — visit their page to see more of their work. This terrain piece is printed at 32mm scale and arrives as separate components for straightforward assembly. Suitable for priming and painting straight away, or display as-is in natural grey. As with all our terrain pieces, some minor cleanup may be needed — supports are removed before dispatch, and any small marks are easily tidied before priming.
Every sculpt we stock is one we'd want on our own table. The cats agree, in their way.
