This is Skeleton Villager 05, the fifth pose in Novaminis' characterful range of undead commoners — and it's one of the most dynamic of the lot. Caught mid-swing with a long wooden staff gripped in both bony hands, this skeleton strides forward in the remnants of layered robes, the fabric still stitched at the hem as if waiting to be mended by hands that no longer draw breath. The free hand is outstretched, fingers splayed — reaching, grasping, or simply following the momentum of an ungainly lurch toward the living.
What sets this range apart is the sense of identity that survives death. This isn't a generic warrior skeleton — it reads as a villager dragged back from the grave, armed with whatever came to hand. That narrative specificity makes it genuinely useful at the table: whether you're populating a cursed hamlet, building a necromancer's shambling horde, or staging a harrowing encounter in an abandoned farmstead. It works equally well as a gaming piece and as a display model for collectors who appreciate character in their undead.
Suited to adventurers who:
- Need undead NPCs with personality for necromancy-themed campaigns
- Are building a graveyard, cursed village, or Ravenloft-style encounter
- Want a varied undead warband with different silhouettes and weapons
- Collect characterful skeleton miniatures for painting or display
Encounter Hook:
The party arrives in the village of Ashwick to find every building shuttered and silent — until dusk falls and the doors swing open one by one. The folk of Ashwick never left. They simply stopped being alive. This one was the miller, and it still carries the shaft of what might have been a grain flail.
