Undead Dwarven Brother (Sook) by DM Stash

He was someone's brother once — now Sook walks the ruins of his clan's hall with a maul still raised and a jaw locked open in a silent war-cry that death itself couldn't silence.

Dwarven undead carry a particular weight. The stubbornness of the living doesn't fade with death — it calcifies into something relentless, mechanical, and deeply unsettling. Sook is no shambling corpse; he is a warrior who never received the order to stand down. His massive two-handed maul is already raised in mid-swing, his reaching free hand clawing forward, his bearded jaw stretched wide in a roar that makes the silence around him feel like a held breath.

The sculpt captures a figure poised between the man he was and the thing he has become. Heavy plated shoulder armour sits over layered scales and a tattered cloak, suggesting a warrior of rank — someone who led, commanded, was known. That history is precisely what makes him such a compelling encounter piece. He isn't a faceless horror; he is somebody's kin, returned and wrong. DMs running Ravenloft campaigns, Underdark delves through forgotten dwarven strongholds, or long-arc stories built on ancestral oaths and clan curses will find Sook a richly resonant presence at their table.

For painters, the contrast is everything: the grey pallor of dead flesh against battle-worn armour, corroded engravings on every plate, the tangled beard still recognisably dwarven, the hollow expression of something that no longer knows fear. He reads equally well as a minion under a necromancer's control, a tragic named antagonist, or the haunting centrepiece of a single-session revelation.

• Adventurers building out undead encounter groups who want named, lore-rich antagonists rather than interchangeable shamblers
• DMs running Ravenloft, Shadowfell, or ancestral-curse campaign arcs with deep dwarven clan lore
• Painters drawn to the emotional contrast of corruption — ornate armour weathered by death, still-proud bearing undercut by decay
• Those who want an undead mini with genuine personality and narrative weight

Encounter Hook: The party is three days into a lost dwarven hold when they find the inner sanctum sealed from the inside. The doors splinter outward with a single blow — and a lone figure stands in the rubble, maul raised, free hand reaching, mouth stretched wide. The inscription carved above the arch names this chamber the Hall of Brothers. The runes on his pauldron match the clan sigil the dwarven paladin has worn since childhood. He has been here a very long time. He is not alone in the dark behind him.
