Captain Draeven is no mere skeleton in a tricorn hat. He is a warlord of the drowned dead — a corsair who refused to surrender his command even to the grave. His tattered longcoat hangs from a frame of rotting flesh and exposed bone, his jaw stretched in a perpetual, hungry snarl. In one hand he drags a heavy anchor chain, its links trailing down across the splintered prow of a sunken vessel; in the other he clutches either the chain's cruel hook or a grinning skull, depending on the variant you choose. His base tells its own story — a wrecked ship's bow rising from churning fog and debris, as though Draeven himself has clawed his way up from the ocean floor to reclaim the world of the living.

Encounter Hook:
The party's ship runs aground on a fog-shrouded reef with no reef on any chart. Below deck, the bilge water rises — and in it, the links of a great anchor chain begin to rattle and pull taut, dragging something vast and furious up from the deep. When Captain Draeven hauls himself over the gunwale, anchor chain swinging and skull in hand, he does not speak. He simply points.
