Drawn from the depths of Welsh mythology and the tales of the Mabinogion, Twrch Trwyth is one of the great primal terrors of the Arthurian cycle — a corrupted ruler wearing the shape of a colossal, demon-horned boar. This sculpt captures that dread magnificently: a massive, shaggy-bristled beast with sweeping curved horns, a face twisted between boar and something older and angrier, and broken chains hanging from one leg — testament to every attempt to hold the creature that has failed. Arrows are buried in its hide, ignored entirely, which tells you everything you need to know about how your party's encounter is likely to go.
Three distinct angles showcase the full character of this piece — the side view reveals the extraordinary texture of the fur and the sheer bulk of the creature; the front view confronts you with that scarred, hollow-eyed face and the heavy chain swinging loose; and the rear-three-quarter view shows the ridge of spines along the back and the whip-thin tail curled behind it. Each angle is a painting challenge and a display opportunity in equal measure. The sculpt sits on a detailed scenic base strewn with broken branches and churned earth — as if the beast has just shouldered through the undergrowth and nothing in its path is standing any more.
From the Chronicles of Excalibur range by Primal Collectibles, this is a large display-scale miniature with presence to match its mythology — equally at home anchoring a boss encounter or commanding a shelf.
Perfect for adventurers who:
- Run Arthurian-themed campaigns, Celtic mythology adventures, or dark fey wilderness encounters
- Need a memorable, lore-grounded boss creature that players will actually recognise and fear
- Want a large-scale centrepiece miniature for display or painting projects
- Are building a Chronicles of Excalibur collection
Encounter Hook:
The village of Caer Dyfed has been sending tribute into the forest for three generations — a pig, a barrel of mead, a child's iron toy — and no one has questioned why, until the night the tribute went uncollected and the treeline exploded inward. The tracks in the mud are the size of cart wheels. The arrows the ranger loosed are already in the ground beside them, shaken loose without breaking stride. Something is coming, and the chains it once wore are dangling from its leg like decoration.
This miniature is printed at display scale and comes with a detailed scenic base as a separate piece — attach with a small amount of glue. The model looks its finest with the base included, as the sculpt interacts naturally with the groundwork. Supplied unprimed and unpainted, ready for your brushwork or display as cast.
