This Turtlefolk Grave Robber from Epic Miniatures is a characterful sculpt that leans hard into the grubby, morally ambiguous corners of the fantasy world. The mini depicts a stocky, reptilian humanoid — a Tortle by build and bearing — caught mid-dig, a heavy shovel gripped close to the body and raised in a posture that reads somewhere between labour and threat. The figure's torso is wrapped in rope cordage and rough cloth, with scale-textured skin and clawed feet planted wide on the base. A small net pouch hangs at the waist, suggesting a creature that collects what others leave behind.
The rear of the sculpt is equally detailed: a dramatic growth of jagged crystals erupts from the back of the shell, giving this particular Turtlefolk an otherworldly edge — perhaps a mutation, a curse, or the residue of the strange magic that seeps through graveyard soil. A flowing, tattered cloak drapes from the shoulders, and the legs are bound in wrappings and leather straps. These details make this mini equally at home as a roguish NPC, a morally grey player character, or an unsettling encounter-piece lurking in a crypt or fen.
The sculpt is a photograph of an unpainted grey resin print, mounted on a medium round base (25.5mm), and the level of surface detail — from the individual rope wraps to the crystal formations — is crisp and well-suited to washes and layered paint schemes.
A good fit for adventurers who:
- Need a Tortle character who strays from the usual monk or hermit archetype
- Are building out a graveyard, swamp, or criminal underworld encounter
- Want an NPC fence, grave-disturber, or reluctant ally with a troubled past
- Play or run a campaign with strong folk horror or gothic undertones
- Are painting something with interesting textural contrast — scales, rope, crystal, and cloth all in one piece
Encounter Hook: The party follows a trail of disturbed earth into the marshland cemetery outside Dunwater's Edge. Crouching beside an open grave, a Turtlefolk startles at their torchlight — clutching a shovel and a weathered tin box. He claims he's reclaiming something that belongs to him. The box is locked. It's ticking.
