The Thunder Lion Armoured is a large-scale beast miniature that commands attention the moment it hits the table. Its entire body is textured with thick, rough fur sculpted in sharp, overlapping layers that give the impression of something between a natural predator and a force of elemental fury. The mane is enormous and wild, spiked outward like a crown of broken bone, framing a wide-open jaw lined with long, prominent fangs — every tooth individually defined and threateningly convincing.
Across its back and flanks, the beast wears heavy armour plating — segmented panels strapped into place with thick bindings, the metal cracked and pitted as though it has endured years of brutal combat. Protruding spines and iron brackets reinforce the saddle-like structure, hinting that this creature may once have been — or still is — a mount for something equally formidable. The tail trails behind in a sweep of shredded, claw-like tendrils rather than a simple brush, adding a sense of savage, elemental power. The pose is low and aggressive, weight shifted forward, as though the creature is in mid-stalk — ready to explode into movement at any moment.
This miniature sits on a large 51mm base, giving it the physical presence a creature of this stature deserves. Whether you're fielding it as a monstrous wilderness encounter, a warlord's prized war-beast, or a corrupted guardian of some forgotten ruin, it brings immediate dramatic weight to the game table. Equally, the density of sculpted detail — from individual fur strands to the pitted surface of the armour — makes it a deeply rewarding miniature to paint for display.
Well-suited for adventurers who:
- Need a large beast encounter that reads as genuinely threatening at a glance
- Are running a campaign featuring armoured war-mounts or beast-riders
- Want a dramatic centrepiece creature for a forest, grassland, or dungeon encounter
- Enjoy painting heavily textured fur and weathered metal on large-scale sculpts
- Are building a display collection of formidable, characterful beasts
Encounter Hook
The party is hired to retrieve a missing merchant caravan on the highland road. When they find the wreckage, there are no bodies — only massive paw prints in the mud leading into the treeline, each impression ringed with scorched earth. The merchant's ledger, still legible in the wreckage, mentions a recent sale of strange iron armour fittings to a buyer who refused to give a name. Then, from somewhere deeper in the trees, something exhales — slow, thunderous, and very close.
