Thorny Vegepygmy by Monster Atlas
Description
Something moved in the dark between the mushroom columns — not a myconid, not quite a beast, but something that had been both, once.

- ✔ Supplied unpainted and ready to prime
- ✔ Compatible with D&D, Pathfinder, and all tabletop RPGs
- ✔ Equally at home on the gaming table or the display shelf
The Thorny Vegepygmy is one of the more unsettling residents of the Underdark's fungal wastelands. Part plant, part predator, it prowls on four splayed claws with a hooked tail raised and a ridge of fleshy, finger-like stalks bristling along its spine. Its hide is a mass of warty nodules, bony protrusions, and deep pockmarks — the texture of something grown rather than born. The face, if you can call it that, is a knot of beady eyes, jutting spines, and writhing tendrils that suggest hunger without any recognisable expression to go with it.
This sculpt by Monster Atlas captures the creature mid-stalk — low to the ground, weight shifting forward, tail curling behind it like a coiled whip. Whether you're running a Vegepygmy colony encounter, populating a blighted fungal forest, or adding a genuinely unsettling beast to your monster collection, this miniature delivers the kind of specific, organic wrongness that makes players instinctively uneasy. It works equally well on the gaming table and as a display piece for adventurers who appreciate the weirder end of fantasy creature design.
Suited to adventurers who:
- Run Underdark or fungal wilderness encounters in D&D 5e or other TTRPGs
- Want a distinctive plant-type monster that reads as genuinely threatening
- Collect creature miniatures from the weirder corners of the Monster Manual
- Enjoy painting highly textured organic sculpts with plenty of surface detail
Encounter Hook:
The party has been tracking a missing patrol through the Underdark for two days when they find the bodies — not dead, but rooted in place, spores blooming from their armour joints. Around them, half a dozen Thorny Vegepygmies circle slowly, and one of the patrol members turns its head and opens its mouth to speak in a voice that no longer sounds entirely human.
