Description

The grass went still. The birds stopped singing. And then the ground beneath the party's feet began to shift, as something vast and scaled uncoiled from the ruins ahead.

Snakes in D&D occupy a fascinating range of threat levels — from the venomous critter in a wizard's tower to the colossal beast serving a yuan-ti high priest as a living weapon. This set from Great Grimoire captures that creature at its most imposing: fully reared, body looped in tight coils, head drawn back and ready to strike. Each of the three sculpts in this range shows a different variation of the same deadly pose — one with a broader, blunter head and flicking tongue for a natural viper feel, one with a more angular, fang-heavy head evoking something older and stranger, and a third held low and coiling with a subtler menace. Every individual scale has been sculpted with care, layering texture across the body so that each loop catches light differently.

Whether you're running a jungle hex-crawl, a yuan-ti temple delve, or a druid's corrupted grove, these serpent minis work equally well as wandering encounters, summoned beasts, or the centrepiece of a lair. They're just as rewarding to paint as they are to place on the table — the overlapping scale texture holds washes beautifully and rewards drybrushing across the raised edges.

Well suited to adventurers who:

  • Need a giant snake or dire serpent encounter for D&D 5e or other TTRPGs
  • Are building yuan-ti temples, jungle ruins, or swamp-based campaign locations
  • Want a beast that reads as genuinely threatening at tabletop scale
  • Paint display miniatures and enjoy deeply textured sculpts that reward layering
  • Are collecting the full Great Grimoire bestiary range

Encounter Hook:
The yuan-ti archivist warned the party that the vault's guardian had not been fed in three months — but the party assumed he meant the construct by the door. They were wrong. From behind a fallen pillar, forty feet of scaled muscle rises to meet them, and the archivist is already backing towards the exit.
