The Pyre-Hounds are a three-piece set from Grimmoire Tales that blurs the line between military horror and dark fantasy. The handler is a WWI-era soldier rendered deeply unsettling — greatcoat torn and battle-worn, a steel helmet sitting low over an insectoid gas mask, rubber hose coiling to a canister at his back. He carries no weapon you can see, which somehow makes him more threatening. Flanking him are two massive hounds, each wearing a heavy chain collar and caught mid-lunge — one rearing up with claws spread, the other surging forward at ground level with teeth bared and muscles tensed beneath finely sculpted fur. These are not pets. They are instruments.
As a set, the Pyre-Hounds work as a Dungeon Master's centrepiece encounter, a faction's enforcers, or a terrifying boss encounter for a horror-themed campaign. The handler reads as a Hellhound keeper, a warlock's bound servant, or the agent of some nameless organisation operating in the dark. For display collectors, the three figures together form a genuinely striking tableau straight out of a weird war or gothic horror setting.
Perfect for adventurers who:
- Run horror, weird war, or gothic fantasy campaigns
- Need a memorable enemy encounter with a handler and beast combo
- Want miniatures that double as compelling display pieces
- Are building faction-specific forces for narrative play
- Love detailed creature sculpts with strong character and movement
Encounter Hook:
The village has been sealed off for three nights running. The party is hired to find out why — and on the second evening they discover the answer: a masked figure in a long coat walking slowly down the main street, two enormous chained beasts at his sides, pausing at each door as though deciding which to open first.
This set includes three miniatures — the gas-masked handler and two Pyre-Hound beasts in distinct poses. Scaled at 35mm; if you require 32mm scaling, send us a message and we will do our best to accommodate. A decorative base option is available — if selected, please send a note specifying which of the three base styles you prefer. Bases arrive separate and attach easily with a small amount of glue. Supports are removed before dispatch; as with all high-detail resin work, minor marks are possible and can be cleaned up with ease. Miniatures arrive fully cured and ready to prime and paint — or display as-is in their raw grey finish.
