The Greatguard Bust by Witchsong Miniatures
Description
In the shadow of a long-forgotten citadel, the Greatguard still stands — its hollow gaze a warning to all who would trespass beyond the threshold of the dead.
- ✔ Large-scale display bust — significantly bigger than standard 32mm
- ✔ Resin printed fresh to order in the UK
- ✔ Supplied unpainted — ideal as a centrepiece painting project
- ✔ Designed for display shelves and painting competitions
This commanding bust depicts a skeletal guardian clad in heavy, ornately carved stone armour, its grinning skull face set within a broad gorget of gothic stonework. Rising behind it, a crown of tall cathedral spires and iron-tipped finials frames the figure like the façade of a cursed cathedral — equal parts monument and threat. The surface is richly textured with cracked masonry, gothic arches, and the worn geometry of a civilisation that built to last, even in death.
Whether you place this on your painting desk as a showpiece project or on your shelf as a finished centrepiece, the Greatguard carries real presence. For Dungeon Masters, it speaks immediately to undead fortresses, the Court of the Raven Queen, or any setting where ancient guardians of forbidden vaults still answer to long-dead commands. Use it as a visual anchor for a recurring villain, a location boss, or simply the atmosphere of a dungeon your players won't forget in a hurry.
A great fit for adventurers who:
- Want a detailed display bust to showcase their painting skills
- Are building a gothic or undead-themed collection
- Need visual inspiration for a powerful undead NPC, dungeon guardian, or villain
- Love cathedral gothic aesthetics — skulls, spires, crumbling stonework
- Are running campaigns set in undead kingdoms, necromantic citadels, or Ravenloft
Encounter Hook:
The party has finally breached the innermost vault of the Tomb of Varathos the Undying — only to find, mounted above the sarcophagus, a carved stone effigy of the Greatguard. As the rogue reaches for the lid, the hollow sockets flicker with cold blue light, and the grinding of ancient stone fills the chamber. Something wakes. Something that has not moved in four centuries. And it remembers its orders perfectly.
