The Elder Shark – Leviathan of the Deep One by DM Stash

Something vast and ancient stirs in the lightless depths of Quorenderi — a creature older than the coastal cities that fear its name, part shark, part aberrant horror, all hunger.

The Elder Shark is not simply a large predator — it is a leviathan that has shed any pretence of natural origin. Its elongated, armoured body surges forward on a sculpted coral and seabed base, mouth wrenched open to reveal row upon row of serrated teeth. Where a natural shark ends, this creature continues: a writhing mass of thick, sinuous tentacles erupts from beneath its jaw and coils around its body, each one textured with ridged scales and fleshy barbs. A second smaller shark-body projects from its flank like a parasitic twin, eyes glassy and hollow, fins outstretched mid-lunge. The creature's dorsal surface carries heavy, overlapping plate-like scales that give way to a whipping, finned tail, while bony spines and ragged fins crown its skull.

The scenic base is richly detailed — scattered coral formations, sponges, sea-floor rubble and shattered stone create a fully realised deep-sea environment that makes this piece equally compelling as a display centrepiece or an encounter-defining table prop. The multipart assembly allows the model to be posed and prepared to your preference before priming.

Whether you're running an aquatic campaign arc, introducing a catastrophic random encounter on the open sea, or simply want a genuinely unsettling showpiece for your painting desk, the Elder Shark delivers the presence of a true deep-water nightmare.

Particularly well-suited for adventurers who:

• Run aquatic or coastal D&D campaigns and need a leviathan-scale encounter centrepiece
• Want a monster that blurs the line between Beast and Aberration to unsettle their players
• Love painting complex organic textures — scales, tentacle skin, and bioluminescent details all reward careful brush work
• Are building an undersea display diorama with a dramatic focal miniature

Encounter Hook

The fishing village of Saltmere has been silent for three days. When the party sails close to investigate, they find the harbour intact but utterly empty — nets drifting, boats moored, fires cold. Then the water beneath their hull turns black as something enormous rises from below, a vast silhouette resolving slowly into the Elder Shark, circling with terrible patience, its tentacles breaking the surface one by one.
