Swarm Matriarch Bust by Witchsong Miniatures
Description
She does not lead from the back — the Swarm Matriarch is the swarm, her will crackling through every chitinous soldier like a hive-mind made flesh and fury.
- ✔ Large-scale display bust — significantly bigger than standard 32mm
- ✔ Resin printed fresh to order in the UK
- ✔ Supplied unpainted — ideal as a centrepiece painting project
- ✔ Designed for display shelves and painting competitions
This large-scale display bust captures an insectoid warlord of terrifying presence: twin recurved horns sweep upward from a broad, ridged brow, while her face — all compound-eyed glare, exposed fangs, and layered mandibles — radiates the kind of cold, calculating menace that belongs on a dungeon throne or a campaign's final act. Jagged pauldrons and studded armour plating ring the chest, each surface alive with organic texture — spines, scales, and chitin stacked into a silhouette that reads as much creature as commander. The sculpt sits on a solid bevelled display plinth, making it shelf-ready straight out of the box.
For painters, this bust is a masterclass in surface variety: smooth carapace plays against rough organic ridges, deep recesses beg for washes, and the layered armour offers endless opportunity to explore colour, wear, and bioluminescent accents. As a collector's piece or display centrepiece, it carries weight on any shelf. For Dungeon Masters, she is an instant villain — the kind of face that tells a whole story before a single word of lore is spoken.
Well-suited to adventurers who:
- Want a detailed, large-format display bust to showcase their painting skills
- Are building a collection of fearsome D&D villains and monster busts
- Need a visually arresting BBEG or hive-queen NPC to anchor a campaign
- Enjoy sculpts that reward close attention — every surface has something to find
Encounter Hook:
The party descends into the lowest chamber of the Writhing Warrens and finds it empty — except for a throne of fused chitin and a single figure seated upon it, utterly still, watching. The Swarm Matriarch does not rise to greet them. She already knows why they've come, because her children told her three levels ago.
