The Steeder is no ordinary giant spider. In the Underdark, these creatures are bred and broken by the Duergar as beasts of burden, ferrying supplies through lightless passages too treacherous for carts and too cramped for mules. This sculpt by Yasashii Kyojin Studio captures that working relationship with striking specificity: a heavily bearded, armoured dwarf-like rider sits astride a massive tarantula-bodied spider, reins in hand, while the spider's abdomen is laden with saddlebags, pouches, scroll cases, and bundled equipment. The creature's eight segmented legs are spread wide and low to the ground, conveying both the weight it carries and the unnerving stillness of something that could lunge at any moment. Every strap, buckle, and pack is sculpted with the kind of detail that rewards a careful paint job.
Whether you're running a Underdark trade encounter, placing a Duergar patrol on the board, or building a diorama of the deep roads, this miniature brings genuine world-building weight to the table. It works equally well as a wandering merchant's mount, a Duergar caravan escort, or the lead creature in an ambush your players won't see coming. As a display piece, the sheer narrative density of the sculpt — rider, beast, and all that cargo — makes it a natural centrepiece on any shelf.
Well-suited for adventurers who:
- Run Underdark campaigns or Out of the Abyss-style adventures
- Need mounted Duergar miniatures for patrol or caravan encounters
- Want a large-footprint spider mini with genuine character and storytelling detail
- Collect unusual or lore-specific mounted creature sculpts
- Enjoy painting layered textures — fur, chitin, leather, and metal all in one piece
Encounter Hook:
The party hears it before they see it — a rhythmic clicking of legs on stone, and the low groan of laden straps. A Steeder rounds the tunnel bend carrying enough stolen trade goods to implicate the whole company, its Duergar rider scanning the dark with the calm of someone who hasn't lost a cargo run yet. He has no intention of starting now.
