The stalagmite mimic is one of the crueller tricks a dungeon can play on an unsuspecting party. Unlike its chest-shaped cousin, this predator blends into the very architecture of the cave — an unremarkable column of stone rising from the cavern floor, ridged and weather-worn, utterly convincing right up until the moment a single bulging eye rolls open and a gaping maw of jagged, uneven teeth splits wide beneath it. This sculpt captures both states with two distinct variants: the dormant form — a textured, tapering stone column that doubles as cave scatter terrain — and the revealed form, all raw hunger, that single lidded eye and a mouth full of irregular fangs worthy of any monster manual illustration.
Whether you're running a classic Underdark crawl, a paranoia-fuelled dungeon delve, or simply want a piece that rewards close inspection on the display shelf, this mimic delivers both narrative tension and visual character in equal measure. The dormant variant works brilliantly as dungeon dressing until the moment you swap it out for the active form — a sleight of hand your players won't see coming.
Perfect for adventurers who:
- Run Underdark encounters and want terrain that does double duty as a hidden threat
- Love the mimic as a creature concept and want a less expected variation than the classic chest
- Are building a cave or dungeon scatter collection with genuine monster potential
- Want a characterful display piece that tells a story without needing to be painted
Encounter Hook:
The ranger's torch sweeps across the cave and the map checks out — one tunnel entrance, two stalagmites, a shallow pool. The rogue starts setting up a bedroll against the larger column. The Dungeon Master says nothing. The Dungeon Master is smiling.
Both variants are included: the dormant stone-column form and the revealed mimic with open jaws and eye. Scaled to 32mm. The model with the integrated base comes as a single piece; the model with a separate plain base can be attached with a small amount of glue. Supplied unpainted and ready for priming — some minor clean-up may be required as part of the printing process, and any small marks are easily tidied before painting.
