The Spiritual Weapon spell is a cornerstone of the Cleric's arsenal — a semi-solid manifestation of divine force that glides across the battlefield, strikes without mercy, and asks nothing of its caster beyond a second-level spell slot. This large shield variant captures that concept beautifully: a hefty tower shield, planked in warm oak-toned wood and banded in riveted steel, floating upon a swirl of conjured magical energy. The sculpt communicates both weight and weightlessness at once — the shield itself looks as though it could turn a warhammer, while the churning cloud base beneath it makes clear that gravity is simply not a concern here.
Painting opportunities abound. The wooden planks take drybrushing and wash techniques wonderfully, while the riveted steel edging rewards edge-highlighting. The conjuration cloud base is a canvas for Object Source Lighting — try a soft aqua or pale gold glow emanating from within the swirling vapour to sell the magical effect. Adventurers who paint it to match their Cleric's deity colours will find the result deeply satisfying on the tabletop.
As a spell effect marker, this miniature does something most tokens and cardboard counters simply cannot: it tells the whole table, immediately and unmistakably, that something powerful and holy is in play. It also works as a standalone display piece for any Cleric, Paladin, or devout warrior-themed collection.
Particularly well suited to adventurers who:
- Play or DM Clerics and want a physical spell marker for Spiritual Weapon
- Are building a divine magic or conjuration-themed display
- Want an evocative visual aid that speeds up combat tracking at the table
- Enjoy painting magical effects and Object Source Lighting techniques
Encounter Hook: The party's Cleric calls the shield into being as six skeletal knights close from two directions — the glowing bulwark wheels to intercept the nearest attacker while its summoner channels a Healing Word across the corridor. Which threat reaches the party first?
