This is the Lion's Mane Sphinx — a creature drawn from myth and made manifest on the tabletop. The sculpt captures the beast mid-alert: massive feathered wings spread wide, forepaws planted firmly on the earth, and that great maned head turned upward as though scenting something on the wind. Every feather, every tuft of the mane, and every raking claw is rendered with the kind of detail that rewards a careful paint job and commands attention on the display shelf even before the brush comes out.
In D&D 5e, sphinxes are Monstrosities of immense intelligence and terrifying power — keepers of sacred places, setters of impossible riddles, and utterly merciless to those who answer wrongly. This sculpt by MZ4250 carries that weight. There is nothing passive about this pose; this is a guardian roused, a threshold defender that has decided the party needs to be assessed.
Perfect for adventurers who:
- Want a centrepiece monster for a desert ruin, divine temple, or ancient library encounter
- Are running a riddle-based encounter or sphinx-guarded dungeon arc
- Collect high-detail creature minis for display alongside their campaign books
- Need a large, imposing Monstrosity that photographs brilliantly for actual-play content
Encounter Hook:
The party has been searching for the Codex of the Undying Sun for three sessions. They find it at last — resting beneath one enormous clawed paw. The sphinx does not move. It simply asks: "Before you take what is mine to guard, answer me this — what is the last thing you wish you had said?" It will know if they lie.
Scaled to 32mm and supplied as a single piece attached to a round base. As with all our minis, supports are removed prior to dispatch and each piece is fully cured. Minor surface marks from the printing process are possible — these are easy to clean up before priming.
