This sculpt from Epic Miniatures is a tour de force of necromantic character design. The Spellbound Lich rises in a coiled, dynamic stance, its lower form merging with a great writhing mass of braided chains that form both its base and its anchor to this plane. Those same chains spiral upward around its torso and one outstretched arm, as though barely contained by whatever dark pact holds them in place. In its other hand it holds a slender blade — graceful and deadly — and atop its shoulders sit swept, curved horns that frame a gaunt, bearded, skull-like face full of imperious menace.
The surface detailing is extraordinary throughout. Ornate scrollwork adorns the flowing garments that billow and tear at the lower hem, hinting at the corrupting energy pouring outward from the Lich's form. The musculature of the torso is exposed and heavily textured, every ridge carved with the confidence of a sculptor who wanted this creature to feel ancient and wrong in equal measure. The chain links themselves are individual, distinct, and convincingly heavy — a real test and reward for any painter who wants to explore metal tones, verdigris, and rusted iron against the pallid flesh beneath.
Because this miniature is multipart and comes with both a decorative base (the coiled chain mass) and a plain base option, you have flexibility in how you present it — whether that is a fully scenic centrepiece or a clean gaming-table piece that slots neatly into your encounter layout.
Built for adventurers who:
- Need a commanding undead BBEG or ancient arcane villain for their campaign's climax
- Want a technically rewarding painting project with chains, bone, fabric, and ornamental metalwork all on one model
- Are building a Shadowfell or Ravenloft setting and need an antagonist with genuine visual weight
- Play or run games where the Lich is not just a stat block — it is an event
Encounter Hook
The party descends into the Vault of Severed Names, following rumours of a phylactery hidden among the chains. What they find instead is the Spellbound Lich itself — suspended in the centre of the chamber, every chain in the room oriented toward it like iron filings around a lodestone. It has not moved in three centuries. It has been waiting.
