Spectator by Novaminis
Description
It doesn't pursue. It doesn't hide. It simply watches — four eye stalks swivelling in silence — and waits for the party to make a mistake.

The Spectator is one of the Underdark's more unsettling guardians: a lesser beholder-kin conjured to protect a treasure or site, bound to its post by purpose rather than malice. This pose — Spectator 01 from Novaminis — captures the creature mid-float, great central eye wide open, jagged-toothed maw agape, and four tentacle-tipped eye stalks splayed outward with that particular quality of alert menace. The sculpt is dense with surface detail: spines bristling across the dome of its body, deeply textured skin folds, and a curling lower tentacle that gives the whole piece a sense of coiling, predatory intent. Viewed from any angle — and the multi-angle render shows all four — there is something deeply wrong about it, which is exactly right.
Whether you're dropping this into a forgotten vault encounter, using it as a Beholder's lesser herald, or painting it up as a display piece for your shelf, the Spectator earns its space at any TTRPG table. It suits gaming and display collecting equally well — the sculpt has the presence to hold its own unpainted, and more than enough detail to reward a careful brush.
Well suited for adventurers who:
- Need a mid-tier aberration threat that doesn't telegraph a full Beholder encounter
- Are building an Underdark dungeon, a treasure vault, or a wizard's sanctum
- Want a characterful monster mini that doubles as a display piece
- Are painting aberrations for a collection and want something with serious surface detail
Encounter Hook:
The party was hired to retrieve a single tome from the sealed archive beneath the old mages' collegium. The door is unlocked. The tome is exactly where the map says it should be. Floating three feet in front of it, unblinking, is a Spectator — and it has had thirty years alone in here to decide how it feels about visitors.
Scaled to 32mm. Available with or without a plain black base — the base is unattached and can be fixed with a small amount of glue. This is pose 01 of our Spectator range by Novaminis. The images shown are digital renders of the sculpt.
