Small Crystal by Mia Kay M3DM

This cluster of faceted crystal spires makes for a striking and versatile piece of scatter terrain. Three angular formations of varying height rise together from a shared base, their geometric faces suggesting something between natural mineral growth and arcane artifice. Paint them deep amethyst for a classic Underdark feel, frost-white for a frozen tundra, or leave them bone-pale for something more unsettling. Whatever colour you choose, they read clearly on the table and give your players something to react to.
Whether you're dressing a dragon's hoard, marking a ley line convergence, or just adding cover and texture to a dungeon room, crystal scatter terrain does quiet but important work — it tells the players that something about this location is different.
Perfect for adventurers who:
- Want to give dungeon rooms, cave systems, or Underdark encounters a distinct visual identity
- Are building a magical or elemental-themed battle map
- Need scatter terrain that doubles as cover, loot markers, or environmental hazards
- Enjoy painting terrain pieces as a hobby project in their own right
- Are assembling a display diorama with a fantasy or arcane theme
Encounter Hook:
The party has been tracking a rogue warlock deep into the Underdark when they enter a chamber where the floor is split by a wide fissure — and from it, a cluster of pale crystal spires juts upward, humming faintly at a frequency only the party's sorcerer seems to notice. The warlock is crouched beside the largest crystal, hand pressed flat against its face, whispering something the players cannot yet hear. Whatever she's doing, it looks close to finished.
