Small Crater 04 by Novaminis

Where something struck the earth with tremendous force, the ground still remembers — rent open, frozen in the moment of impact, jagged edges pointing skyward like broken teeth.

Small Crater 04 is a multipart scatter terrain piece depicting a violent impact site — a ragged, irregular bowl of fractured rock ringed by upthrust shards of displaced earth. The sculpt captures the raw, kinetic energy of something enormous having torn through solid ground: the interior of the crater is pitted and textured, with a darkened, glassy quality suggesting scorched or vitrified rock at the point of impact. The outer rim rises unevenly, broken into jutting plates and crumbling shelves of debris that spread outward in a low, wide footprint.

Novaminis have packed this piece with the kind of close-observation detail that rewards painters — every pockmark, every fractured surface plane, and every splinter of displaced stone is crisply rendered. The asymmetrical profile means the crater reads convincingly from every angle on the table, never looking flat or uniform. A wash of dark earth tones over a warm stone basecoat will bring the textures to life quickly, while OSL techniques on the interior could suggest residual heat, magical discharge, or something stranger still.

As a scatter terrain element, this crater earns its place in a wide range of encounters. Use it on a volcanic highland, a war-torn battlefield, a blasted wasteland, or the outskirts of a summoning circle gone catastrophically wrong. It provides natural cover for skirmish rules, marks a point of narrative significance — the site of a meteor strike, a dragon's landing, or a titan's footfall — and breaks up flat table layouts with genuine visual weight.

Great for adventurers who:

• Need quick-to-paint scatter terrain that adds immediate atmosphere to any outdoor encounter
• Run wilderness, wasteland, or battlefield sessions and want evocative environmental storytelling
• Are building a display diorama and want a grounded, geological focal point
• Want terrain pieces detailed enough to hold their own alongside high-quality miniatures

Encounter Hook: The party crests a ridge to find a fresh crater still steaming in the morning mist — and at its centre, half-buried in scorched earth, a metallic object that most certainly was not made by any smith in the realm. Whatever it is, the cultists converging from the tree line got here almost as fast as the party did.
