This is a creature that feels like it was designed specifically to make players nervous. The Skull Bear is a powerfully built, bear-like demon rendered in a low, threatening crouch — weight forward, arms spread wide, claws extended and ready. Multiple long, hooked talons fan out from each hand, giving the impression of something that doesn't just attack but rends. The face is a nightmare of cracked bone and predatory fury, framed by swept-back horns that curve upward in two tiers.

The armour is the real storytelling detail. Across the chest sits a broad breastplate decorated with a prominent skull motif, layered with rough stone-cut plating. A belt of smaller skulls circles the waist — trophies, most likely, of whatever came before your party. The back is equally impressive: broad shoulders draped in overlapping feather-like scales or layered hide that gives the creature a textured, almost ritualistic silhouette. Every angle of this sculpt has been considered, making it as rewarding to paint from behind as from the front.

The stance is deliberately ambiguous — it could be a charge just beginning, or a creature sizing up its prey before the lunge. Either way, the energy is unmistakable. This is not a wandering monster. This is something with intent.

A sound choice for adventurers who:

  • Run fiend-heavy or Abyssal encounter tables and want a creature with genuine visual menace
  • Need a physically imposing monster that works as a guardian, summoned beast, or demon lord's lieutenant
  • Want a characterful model that will reward detailed painting — the skull iconography, claw structure, and layered back scales offer excellent brush work potential
  • Are building a display collection of demonic or monstrous creatures

Encounter Hook: The party's contact in the ruins — a half-mad warlock — warned them about the guardian. He called it "the collector." Now the players can see why: the passage ahead is flanked by severed adventurer gauntlets, still clutching their weapons, arranged with horrible care. A low, rhythmic sound fills the corridor. The Skull Bear is already aware of them. It has been for some time.
