The Skinned Cerberus is one of those sculpts that stops a table cold. Every strand of muscle and tendon is rendered in exacting detail across its hulking, low-slung frame — no fur, no hide, just the raw anatomy of something that should not be alive. Two heads share that enormous body: one thrust forward mid-sniff, nostrils flared and fangs parted; the other angled away, equally alert, scanning for a second threat. Dorsal ridges run the length of its spine like the teeth of a trap, and its clawed feet are splayed wide, weight forward, ready to lunge.
This is a large miniature on a 51mm base, which gives it the table presence its concept demands. The sheer musculature — layered in deep, paintable striations — rewards anyone who enjoys ambitious wet-blending or layering work. Glazed reds and purples into raw pink, with blue-grey shadows in the muscle valleys, would make this creature look viscerally alive. Alternatively, a bleached-bone palette with dark ink washes gives it the look of something pulled from the Underworld itself.
Whether you field it as a classic mythological guardian, a fiendish war-hound of Avernus, or the twisted result of a necromancer's most reckless experiment, the Skinned Cerberus commands the encounter.
Well suited for adventurers who:
- Want a large-creature encounter that provokes a genuine reaction at the table
- Enjoy technically rewarding painting projects with deep muscular detail
- Are running Avernus, Planescape, or underworld-themed campaigns
- Need a memorable guardian creature for a dungeon's innermost sanctum
- Collect display pieces that showcase what resin sculpting can achieve
Encounter Hook: The party descends into the vault beneath the ruined temple, following the trail of something dragged — something large. The smell hits first: iron and brimstone. Then they hear it: two sets of breathing, rasping and unsynchronised, coming from the darkness ahead. Whatever the cult bound here to guard their relics, it has been waiting a very long time, and it is hungry.
