This is Skeleton Warrior 15 from Novaminis — part of their expansive range of undead soldiers built to populate crypt corridors, haunted barrows, and the marching ranks of a necromancer's legion. Where many skeleton sculpts feel fragile or rushed, this one carries genuine weight. The silhouette is broad and soldierly: a riveted breastplate studded across its surface, pauldrons protecting what remains of the shoulders, and layered leg armour running from the knee to a pair of heavy boots that still somehow look like they could kick a door in. A long cloak falls behind the figure, adding a sense of age and ceremony — this isn't a freshly raised corpse, it's something that has been standing watch for centuries.

The axe is held back and raised above the right shoulder, the blade angled outward in that classic shoulder-carry that suggests both readiness and menace. In the left hand, a round shield is gripped firmly — banded and studded in the style of a warrior who knew how to use it in life. The skull helm is a key detail: fitted close to the exposed bone of the face beneath, it frames the empty eye sockets and grinning jaw with just enough structure to suggest this was once a soldier of rank. There's real character in that skull, and it'll paint up beautifully — deep-set shadows in the orbital sockets, the nasal cavity open, the jaw set in that permanent grimace the undead do so well.

This variant is number 15 in Novaminis' Skeleton Warrior series, making it a natural companion piece for adventurers building out undead warband encounters or filling the ranks of a Ravenloft garrison. The sculpt holds its own as a display piece too — there's enough going on with the cloak, the armour detailing, and the axe-raise pose to make it a satisfying painting project in its own right.

Well suited for adventurers who:

  • Need rank-and-file undead soldiers for dungeon encounters or skirmish battles
  • Are building a necromancer's army and want sculpts with genuine personality
  • Want a D&D skeleton miniature that reads as a veteran warrior, not just a generic monster
  • Enjoy painting bone, aged metal, and worn leather — all well represented here
  • Are collecting across the full Novaminis Skeleton Warrior series for a cohesive warband

Encounter Hook

The party descends into the barrow's lowest chamber to find a throne, long empty — and before it, a lone skeleton standing at attention, axe raised to its shoulder, shield arm forward. It doesn't move. It doesn't approach. It simply watches. The necromancer warned them to leave an offering on the stone plinth before the throne. They forgot. The skeleton takes one step forward.
