Ogres are fearsome enough in life. In death, stripped of flesh but not of fury, they become something altogether grimmer. This Skeleton Ogre from MZ4250 captures that relentless, hollow-eyed menace beautifully — a massive undead brute, jaw stretched wide in a silent roar, mismatched armour still strapped across its exposed ribcage, and a heavy spiked club levelled with grim intent. Crouching at its side is a skeletal creature — part pet, part weapon — clawed and hissing, equally devoid of mercy.
The sculpt rewards a painter's attention. There's real texture in the wrapped leather bindings at the wrists and ankles, the layered plates of salvaged armour on one shoulder, and the hollow cavities of the rib cage and eye sockets that beg for deep shadow washes and OSL work. Whether you're going for bleached bone, ancient yellowed ivory, or sorcerous green-tinged remains, this miniature has the depth to carry it.
As a gaming piece, the Skeleton Ogre fills the role of a hard-hitting undead brute — the sort of encounter that makes players reconsider their action economy. As a display model, the pairing of the towering skeleton with its crouching skeletal beast gives the composition a dynamic, narrative quality that stands out on any shelf.
Particularly well-suited for adventurers who:
- Are building out a necromancer's war host or undead warband
- Need a memorable brute-tier threat for dungeon, graveyard, or crypt encounters
- Enjoy painting complex skeletal anatomy with layered bone tones and shadow work
- Want a display piece with genuine character and visual storytelling
Encounter Hook: The party clears the final chamber of the barrow — only to hear the slow, rhythmic thud of something massive moving in the passage behind them. The necromancer they slew three rooms ago has a contingency: an ogre skeleton, stitched back together from the bones of three different giants, with a skeletal hyena lashed to its wrist by rusted chain. The exit is behind it. The walls are close. There is no room to run.
