This is no ordinary skeleton. The Skeleton Leader Hammer is sculpted with the commanding presence of a long-dead general: a horned crown flickering with ghostly tongues of flame, pauldrons and greaves still bearing the remnants of once-formidable plate, and a flowing battle cloak that sweeps dramatically behind a wide, planted stance. Skull-faced belt buckles and grim bone-knuckled gauntlets complete the silhouette of something that has not merely risen from the grave — it has returned with a grudge and an army.
The centrepiece of the sculpt is the great hammer-axe combination weapon levelled forward in a mid-swing ready position, both skeletal hands gripping the long haft. The pose is assertive rather than frenzied — this is a leader issuing judgement, not a mindless brute flailing in the dark. The shield-shaped armour plate at the hip, decorated with a trio of skulls, reinforces that sense of martial identity stretching back centuries beyond death.
Whether you paint those crown flames in spectral green, sickly purple, or a deep volcanic orange, there is real detail here to reward the brush. The musculature of exposed bone beneath torn chainmail, the layered leather beneath the cloak, and the hatched texturing on the hammer head all offer satisfying contrast for highlight and wash work. This sculpt is equally compelling as a grimdark undead encounter piece and as a standalone display model.
- ✔ Undead commanders, death knight lieutenants, and wight warlords
- ✔ Homebrew necromancer armies or Ravenloft-adjacent campaigns
- ✔ Adventurers who love painting dramatic, characterful undead
- ✔ DMs who want a credible leader model to stand out from the skeleton rank and file
Encounter Hook: The party has been hired to retrieve a stolen relic from a barrow complex beneath the moors — but when they reach the burial chamber, they find not an empty tomb but a skeleton warlord sitting upon a throne of fused shields, hammer across its knees, waiting. It speaks first: "You took longer than the last group." Initiative is rolled.
