This set of three skeletal cage decorations from Epic Miniatures brings a deeply unsettling gothic atmosphere to any dungeon, crypt, or necromancer's lair. Each piece is distinct: one features a ribbed iron birdcage on bone-leg stilts containing a huddled skeleton; a second is a taller, spike-collared cage carrying the remains of a more armoured figure; and the third is a standalone skeleton contorted into a dramatic handstand pose — all bleached bones and exposed ribs — suggesting something far more theatrical and sinister about whoever placed it there.

The ironwork cages are richly detailed with bolt-head rivets, curved bars, and hanging loops at the crown — clearly designed to be suspended from dungeon ceilings or dungeon-floor lamp posts. The skeletal occupants are visible through the bars, skulls lolling and limbs splayed in various states of grim repose. These pieces read equally well as the decorative trophies of a lich's sanctum, the entrance markers of a death cult's shrine, or the aftermath of a particularly brutal prison encounter.

Whether you're dressing a dungeon tile corridor, punctuating a graveyard encounter, or building a display diorama centred on undead horror, these scatter pieces carry real narrative weight. Paint the iron dark and rusty, hit the bones with a bleached bone palette, and they will transform any table into somewhere adventurers genuinely do not want to be.

Adventurers who'll make great use of these include:

  • Dungeon Masters running necromancer lairs, vampire castles, or death cult dungeons
  • Terrain painters wanting characterful gothic scatter with strong visual storytelling
  • Display hobbyists building undead dioramas or Ravenloft-themed shelves
  • Anyone who wants their dungeon to feel genuinely threatening before the first roll is made

Encounter Hook: As the party descends into the sub-vault beneath the Cathedral of Bones, they notice the cages lining the corridor are not empty — and one of the skeletons inside slowly turns its skull to track their movement. The necromancer isn't just displaying his trophies. He's been waiting in them.
