Here stands a skeleton soldier that hasn't let death interrupt its duty. Clad in layered plate and chainmail, this undead warrior raises a broad heraldic shield in a low defensive guard while levelling a long spear to fend off anyone foolish enough to approach. A battered kettle helmet sits atop its grinning skull — the kind of practical military headwear that has outlasted its wearer by several centuries. The sculpt captures that satisfying combination of martial discipline and creeping decay: the armour is serviceable and battle-worn, the chain skirt still intact, the bones exposed wherever the kit has worn through. It reads less like a shambling horror and more like a soldier who simply never received the order to stand down.
The detail on the shield alone rewards a careful painter — layered heraldic ridges and reinforcing studs give you plenty of surface to work with, whether you're going for a weathered iron finish, faded colour or the livery of a long-dead kingdom. The spear extends at a low, threatening angle, adding real dynamism to a pose that reads as disciplined rather than frenzied. This is a skeleton that held a formation in life and keeps holding it in undeath.
Whether you're fielding it as a rank-and-file guardian in a necromancer's keep, a cursed soldier haunting a ruined fort, or a spectral protector bound to a forgotten tomb, this miniature carries genuine presence. It's the kind of sculpt that looks equally compelling in a massed undead warband on the battlefield or as a solitary focal piece on a display shelf.
Particularly well suited for adventurers who:
- Run undead encounters and want soldiers with genuine military bearing
- Are building a necromancer's army with varied rank-and-file troops
- Love painting weathered armour, bone, and aged heraldry
- Need a Dungeon Master's workhorse undead mini that paints up quickly in bulk
- Want a display piece with enough detail to reward careful brush work
Encounter Hook
The party crosses a rope bridge over a fog-filled ravine when they hear the rhythmic clank of armour below. Twelve of these spear-and-shield skeletons emerge from the mist in a loose but deliberate formation — moving with the mechanical discipline of soldiers following orders they can no longer remember, but cannot disobey. Someone, somewhere, gave these bones a purpose. That someone may still be watching.
