Among the shambling ranks of the undead, the skeleton soldier armed with twin daggers is a particularly unsettling prospect. Where a lumbering zombie can be sidestepped and a shambling horde avoided, this one moves — fast, low, and with uncanny purpose. The bones of a trained fighter don't forget their muscle memory, even when the muscles are long gone.
This sculpt from Epic Miniatures captures that animated menace brilliantly. The skeleton is caught mid-stride in a sharp, forward-lunging run, one knee raised and both daggers drawn — one angled low, one held in a reverse grip, ready to close distance and strike. Tattered remnants of chainmail hang at the waist, and worn armour plating covers the chest and lower legs, suggesting this warrior died a soldier and rose as something worse. The expression — if a skull can have one — is that wide, hollow rictus grin that makes skeleton miniatures so satisfying to both play with and paint.
The dynamic pose makes this miniature particularly rewarding to paint. The raised knee and offset daggers create strong directional flow, and the interplay of bare bone against damaged metal armour gives painters plenty of textural contrast to work with — bone white transitions, grimy corroded steel, and those ragged chain links catching a wash beautifully. Equally compelling as a singular display piece or ranked up with a full undead warband on a graveyard battlefield.
Available with or without a plain round base — choose the option that suits your basing style.
Well-suited for adventurers who:
- Need fast, threatening undead soldiers for ambush encounters or necromancer warbands
- Are building a skeleton army with character — not just identical rank-and-file troops
- Want an undead rogue or assassin proxy for a more sinister encounter
- Enjoy painting bone textures, aged metal, and tattered armour
- Are looking for a sharp, dynamic undead sculpt worthy of a display shelf
Encounter Hook
The party clears the final corridor of the tomb — or thinks they do. Then, from the shadows behind a collapsed sarcophagus, something uncoils itself and sprints. Not a shamble. A run. The skeleton assassin was stationed here in life to guard this vault, and its necromantic animation has preserved one directive above all else: kill anyone who enters. It closes thirty feet in a single action and goes straight for the rogue.
