Every bustling market, trading post, and back-street apothecary needs its regulars — and this chap is one of the more opinionated ones. Sculpted by Novaminis as part of their Shop Customer series, this first variation depicts a broad-shouldered man in a long buttoned coat and lace-detailed trousers, caught mid-deliberation: one hand resting on his hip, the other raised to his chin as he mulls over whatever it is he's considering buying (or refusing to pay full price for). His expression is one of pointed scepticism — the kind that makes merchants nervous and party members check their own prices.

The sculpt has a relaxed confidence to it — this isn't a man in a hurry. Loose, slightly dishevelled hair and weathered clothing suggest someone practical rather than noble, perhaps a travelling merchant himself, a veteran haggler, or simply a well-established local with opinions on everything. The lace-up detailing running along the outer seams of his trousers is a nice bit of character — this is someone with a sense of personal style, even if it's seen better days.

As variation 01 in the Shop Customer range, this pose is the deliberating browser — the classic "I'm thinking about it" townsperson that every market scene needs. Pair him with other NPC figures to bring a trading quarter, guild hall, or city street to life.

Particularly well-suited for adventurers who:

  • Run urban campaigns with living, breathing city districts
  • Need convincing bystanders for market scenes, heists, or social encounters
  • Want NPCs that could double as a contact, fence, or reluctant quest-giver
  • Are building a display diorama of a town or trading post

Encounter Hook: The party has been tracking a stolen shipment through the city's merchant quarter. As they question the shopkeeper, a broad-shouldered man in a long coat lingers near the counter, hand to chin, apparently examining the wares — but he's been there too long, and he keeps glancing at the back room. Is he a rival buyer, an informant, or the very fence they've been looking for?
