Description

Even the most observant ranger wouldn't clock the platypus dozing in the reeds — but that little hat suggests this one is very much on assignment.

  • ✔ 32mm scale resin miniature, printed fresh to order in the UK
  • ✔ Supplied unpainted and ready to prime
  • ✔ Compatible with D&D, Pathfinder, and all tabletop RPGs
  • ✔ Equally at home on the gaming table or the display shelf

The Secret Agent Platypus is exactly the kind of miniature that earns a groan and a grin at the table in equal measure. Sculpted by Mia Kay M3DM, this wonderfully characterful little beast depicts a platypus stretched out flat on a textured riverside base, surrounded by tufts of marsh grass and low reeds — utterly motionless, utterly suspicious. The tiny wide-brimmed hat perched on its head does nothing to help its cover.

Two sculpt variations are shown: one viewed from above, giving a clear look at the hat and the broad paddle tail; the other from the front, revealing the duck-billed snout, heavy-lidded eyes, and powerful splayed claws. Both sit on detailed oval bases that evoke shallow water and soft riverbank mud — every detail reads clearly even at 32mm scale.

Whether you use this as a whimsical animal companion, an enchanted familiar with dubious intelligence scores, or an inexplicable NPC that your players will absolutely ask questions about, the Secret Agent Platypus brings a rare kind of energy to the table. It also makes for a genuinely delightful display piece — the kind of mini that gets picked up and examined by every visitor to the hobby shelf.

This miniature works brilliantly for adventurers who:

  • Run lighthearted or comedy-leaning campaigns and want props to match
  • Play or DM with animal companions, familiars, or exotic beast encounters
  • Collect character-driven beast minis beyond the standard wolves and bears
  • Want a conversation-starting piece for a painting project or display shelf
  • Need a memorable NPC or encounter token for a riverside or marshland scene

Encounter Hook: The party has been hired to retrieve a stolen cipher from a thieves' guild operating out of the river district. Their contact — described only as "small, discreet, and very hard to spot" — turns out to be a trained platypus with a note tucked under its hat. The guild master insists this is perfectly normal. A DC 14 Insight check suggests otherwise, but no one can prove anything.
