There is something deeply unsettling about a figure that was never meant to move — and Mia Kay M3DM has captured that dread with striking precision. This scarecrow miniature is built from woven wicker and tattered rope, its arms outstretched across a wooden crossbeam in the classic cruciform pose of the field sentinel. But the carved pumpkin head and wide-brimmed straw hat give it a distinctly sinister air, somewhere between folk horror and autumn nightmare.
The sculpt rewards close attention. The woven basketwork texture covering the torso and legs is richly detailed, with fraying edges and dangling rope tails that suggest something assembled — or perhaps grown — rather than built. The base is scattered with small pumpkins clustered at the figure's feet, grounding it in a harvest-season atmosphere that translates beautifully whether you're painting it as a mundane field fixture or a Constructs-class horror waiting to animate.
As a painting project, this miniature offers a satisfying range of textures: the rough weave of the body, the smooth curve of the pumpkin face, the wood grain of the crossbeam, and the organic scatter of the gourds at its base. It reads clearly at arm's length on the table, and holds up beautifully under close inspection on the display shelf.
The miniature is available in three options: without a base, with a plain round base, or with the atmospheric decorative base featuring the pumpkin scatter — choose whichever suits your table or collection best.
Suited to adventurers who:
- Run harvest season one-shots, Ravenloft campaigns, or rural gothic horror encounters
- Want a creature that reads as either mundane scenery or a genuine threat
- Enjoy painting contrasting textures — wicker, wood, gourd skin, and rope all in one sculpt
- Are building out an autumn-themed display or seasonal encounter set
Encounter Hook: The farming settlement of Millhaven has not reported a missing person in six months — but the number of scarecrows in the outlying fields has tripled. The party is hired to investigate after a travelling merchant swears he counted seven figures at dusk and found nine at dawn. One of them was facing the wrong direction.
