Few creatures in the natural world command the kind of primal terror that a hippopotamus in full charge inspires. Deceptively quick for its bulk, this sculpt captures that horrible momentum perfectly — barrel body low to the ground, thick legs driving forward, and that enormous mouth thrown open in a gape wide enough to make even seasoned adventurers reconsider their positioning. The layered folds of skin, the heavy tongue curled within the jaw, and the deep-set eyes all speak to a creature that has absolutely no interest in negotiation.
Whether you're statting it up as a standard beast or using it as the avatar of a river god's wrath, this is a miniature that commands the table the moment it hits the mat. Equally compelling as a display piece — the dynamic pose and sculptural detail reward a careful paint job, from the grey-pink hide to the mottled skin around the jaw.
Perfect for adventurers who:
- Need a large beast encounter for a riverside, savannah, or jungle setting
- Are running a safari-style hex-crawl or wilderness survival campaign
- Want a distinctive centrepiece creature that will genuinely unsettle their players
- Enjoy painting large, textured creatures with interesting skin tones and folds
- Collect realistically sculpted animal miniatures for display
Encounter Hook:
The party has been hired to escort a merchant caravan through the Sunken Delta — three days of shallow waterways, mangrove roots, and unseen currents. On the second night, one of the pack animals stumbles into the shallows and doesn't come back up. By morning, the tracks around the camp are enormous, and the river guide refuses to speak above a whisper: something has claimed this stretch of water as its territory, and it is not finished making that point.
Scaled to 32mm and supplied ready for priming and painting. Available with or without a plain black base — the base ships unattached and can be fixed in place with a small amount of glue. Some minor imperfections may occur during the printing process; any residual marks are easily cleaned up before painting.
