The Rune Warped Eye Tyrant is a beholder variant unlike any your party will have faced before. Where a standard eye tyrant is already the stuff of nightmares, this sculpt suggests something worse — a creature that has been altered, bound, or perhaps willingly reshaped by runic magic. Its central body is encased in angular, shard-like armour plating etched with glyphs, culminating in a jagged crown-like spike at the top that gives the impression of a dark bishop's mitre forged from chitin and stone. The central eye is wide and reptilian, set above a gaping maw filled with curved, interlocking fangs and a lolling tongue — feral hunger given form. Flanking it on all sides are multiple eyestalks, each tipped with a bulbous, veined globe. The underside reveals a mass of tentacle-like appendages and fleshy folds, hinting at something that moves in ways eyes should not follow.
The miniature sits on a decorative sculpted base that adds considerable presence to the model — rubble and arcane stone fragments suggest this creature has erupted from somewhere it should never have been. The base size is large (51mm), making the Rune Warped Eye Tyrant an appropriately imposing centrepiece on the tabletop. It prints with both supported and unsupported variants included, giving you flexibility in how you approach assembly and preparation.
Whether you're using it as a recurring Underdark horror, a corrupted beholder lord under the thrall of a rune-witch, or simply a ferocious and visually distinct boss encounter, this sculpt carries genuine menace. Painters will find extraordinary surface texture throughout — the armour plates, the eyestalk tendons, the rows of teeth — all reward careful drybrushing, washes, and spot colour on those glowing orbs.
- Dungeon Masters building a runic-magic themed campaign arc
- Painters who want a detailed centrepiece creature to showcase their basing and OSL skills
- Collectors seeking a beholder variant that stands apart from more conventional sculpts
- Adventurers who want their BBEG encounter to feel genuinely unforgettable
Encounter Hook: The party descends into the Vault of Unwritten Names — a collapsed scriptorium where an ancient order once transcribed forbidden rune-lore. The walls are covered in glyphs that still glow faintly. Then the ceiling blinks. The Rune Warped Eye Tyrant drops from above, its armour lit by the same sigils that cover the walls, and the party realises with horror that the runes aren't a record of the creature — they are its cage, and the cage has just opened from the inside.
