Red Dragon Wyrmling 03 by Novaminis

Even the smallest red dragon is already dreaming of conquest — and this wyrmling has the claws, the wings, and the raw fury to make a very convincing start.

This is the third sculpt in Novaminis' red dragon wyrmling series, and it brings a distinctly aggressive energy to the collection. Where earlier variants might have suggested a creature still finding its footing, this pose — rearing back on its haunches with wings flung wide and forelimbs thrust forward, talons spread — reads as a wyrmling that has already decided it is in charge. The head is lowered and angled forward, jaws parted in a snarl that exposes rows of sharp teeth, while the large swept-back horns and prominent dorsal ridge give it real visual weight for such a compact creature.

The sculpt's surface detail is meticulous: overlapping scale patterns shift from fine facial scales to broader body plates, and the wing membranes show the characteristic stretched, leathery texture of a young red dragon whose ambitions already outpace its size. Every claw is individually articulated, lending the outstretched forearms a grasping, predatory quality that makes the model read as mid-lunge even when stationary.

As the third variation in the range, this sculpt works particularly well as a distinct individual encounter piece — a territorial wyrmling defending a scorched lair, or the most aggressive of a hatching clutch. Adventurers who collect the full series will appreciate how each sculpt conveys a different facet of the wyrmling's volatile temperament.

• ✔ Adventurers who want a low-CR dragon encounter that still looks genuinely threatening on the table
• ✔ Dungeon Masters running volcanic, mountain, or lair-based encounters where a young red dragon serves as the centrepiece
• ✔ Painters who want a compact, detail-rich subject to practise NMM fire tones or OSL heat effects
• ✔ Collectors building out a full red dragon lifecycle diorama, from wyrmling to wyrm

Encounter Hook

The party has been hired to recover a stolen heirloom from a smuggler's hideout in the volcanic foothills — but when they descend into the lower cavern, they find the smugglers already dead, their goods scattered, and a young red dragon crouched atop the hoard with its wings spread wide, daring anyone to come closer. It's small enough that the party might underestimate it. It is absolutely counting on that.
