Red dragon wyrmlings are not merely dangerous because of their fire breath — they're dangerous because they've inherited every ounce of chromatic dragon pride without yet developing the patience to restrain it. This sculpt by Novaminis captures that volatile energy with striking precision: the wyrmling lunges forward on powerful haunches, wings spread wide and head thrust outward, jaws parted in challenge. Every scale, claw, and wing membrane has been rendered with the kind of anatomical care that rewards close inspection and generous brushwork in equal measure.
This is variation 02 in Novaminis' red dragon wyrmling range, and it offers a distinctly more confrontational pose than its sibling — the wyrmling is moving, threatening, committed. It reads as a creature that has already decided to attack and is simply closing the distance. Whether you're placing it on a volcanic mountain pass, deep inside a smoke-choked cave network, or at the heart of a draconic cultist's sanctum, this miniature earns its place at the centre of the table.
The multipart construction allows the wings to be attached separately, making the assembly process straightforward and giving painters comfortable access to the chest, underbelly, and wing membrane — all the surfaces that catch the light and reward careful blending.
Well suited to adventurers who:
- Are running a draconic-themed campaign or a dragon-heavy encounter arc
- Want a low-CR dragon encounter that still feels genuinely menacing on the table
- Collect across the full chromatic dragon spectrum and want consistent sculpt quality
- Enjoy painting fire-coloured scales, heated wing membranes, and bright scleral eyes
- Display painted miniatures and want a dragon that commands shelf presence
Encounter Hook
The party has been hired to investigate livestock disappearing from a highland village. Following a trail of scorched earth and fractured stone, they descend into a collapsed mineshaft — and find a nest of blackened bones, a clutch of cracked egg fragments, and a wyrmling that hasn't eaten in three days. It doesn't wait for them to speak first.
