This Ratswarm miniature from Witchsong Miniatures is far more than a simple swarm token. Sculpted as a writhing, teeming mass of rats — easily a dozen or more individual rodents crammed together in frenzied motion — the piece is crowned by a large battleaxe thrust upward from the writhing horde, as though claimed from some fallen warrior. The detail on each individual rat is remarkable: fur texture, open mouths, clambering limbs and layered bodies all captured in a single cohesive sculpture that reads as chaotic life from every angle. The whole composition sits on a rubble-strewn base that grounds it firmly in a dungeon or ruin setting.

Whether you're running an Underdark colony encounter, a plague-riddled city district, or a cursed granary that hides something far worse than vermin, this miniature brings genuine unease to the table. It also makes a gripping display piece for collectors drawn to the stranger, more character-rich corners of the monster catalogue.

Perfect for adventurers who:

  • Need a swarm encounter piece with real visual presence and character
  • Are building Underdark, sewer, or dungeon-delving campaigns
  • Want a display centrepiece that tells a story without a word of explanation
  • Are painting challenge enthusiasts — individual rat fur across a full swarm is a rewarding project

Encounter Hook:
The party finds a battleaxe — recognisable as belonging to a missing city guard captain — being carried through a sewer tunnel by a surging mass of rats. Following them leads into a labyrinthine warren where a wererat warlord has been quietly building an army beneath the city's feet, and the rats are just the beginning.
