The Rat Guard is a ratfolk warrior sculpted with real martial authority — this is no scavenging pest, but a seasoned sentinel standing its ground. The sculpt depicts the guard in a wide, grounded stance, both clawed hands gripping a long ornate polearm held diagonally across the body in a ready position. The weapon is beautifully detailed, with a forked, blade-tipped head that suggests both utility and ceremony.
The armour is layered and segmented — overlapping plates across the chest, pauldrons on the shoulders, and articulated leg guards that speak to a culture with real craft and military tradition. The face carries a sneer of defiance, ears flattened, one eye clouded, giving the impression of a veteran who has survived more than a few skirmishes. The tail curls behind for balance, and the clawed feet are splayed wide — this miniature is built for confrontation.
The sculpt is a digital render shown in an unpainted warm terracotta tone with a scale reference d20, illustrating medium creature size. The level of surface detail — from the riveted plates to the fur texture beneath the armour — makes this a rewarding miniature to paint.
Suits adventurers who are:
- Building out a ratfolk warren, thieves' guild, or Underdark faction
- Running Skaven-adjacent or humanoid vermin encounters
- Looking for a distinctive NPC guard, patrol captain, or minor boss
- Painting detailed anthropomorphic creature minis with armour and weapons
- Creating a display piece that stands out from the typical dungeon mob
Encounter Hook: The party descends into the old smugglers' tunnels beneath Dockside Ward — but what they find is not an abandoned passage. A pair of Rat Guards block the way, polearms crossed, their clouded eyes unblinking. Behind them, the sound of many more small claws on stone. Someone is expecting visitors.
